The first match of 2011 ended with a non-convincing 0-0 at home against Racing Santander.
The new year could have started better for Atlético, who couldn't do better than a home draw against Santander. It's true that some important players was missing, as Diego Forlan followed the match from the stands and Tiago was forced to leave the pitch after only 20'.
Without the Uruguayan player, it's been the Argentinian Aguero to wear the captain's armband. And not by chance the first dangerous shot of the match was Aguero's, who started the new year in the same way he finished the old, pity this time luck wasn't on his side. The hometeam was the only one who tried to score, Racing's defence had big problems to control El Kun and Diego Costa, even if after Tiago's injury things became harder for Quique's team. Guests' biggest chance in the first half was a free kick easily saved by De Gea.
The second half started with an Atletico's defensive mistake which brought Rosenborg very close to the lead. This chance caused a reaction in the hometeam, who was slowly losing the intensity, but neither Aguero nor Valera or Koke managed to beat Toño. At 79' De Gea saved the match on Rosenborg with a great kick save and the in last minutes there was only one team playing but again Valera and Diego Costa couldn't score the decisive goal.
Ujfaluši played the whole match and even tried a couple of time to shot but without any luck.
